adhd & schools | ADHD Information

  Hi my name is vicky i have 3 sons one 12 one 11 & one 9 my 11yr old was diagnosed 18mths ago with adhd  & cd my 9yr old was diagnosed 8mths ago. it has been hard work as the school they both attended just dont want to reconise them as having adhd. for three yrs i was called up the school with my 11yr old to either talk to him or to take him home i would either vomit some nights or cry thinking of what they would do the next day keep him in or send him home but when my youngest was diagnosed it was like a blessing for them not to have both brothers in as they wouldnt have to do nothing. i got told on my 11yr olds leaving service that he will not be attending mainstream school with his older brother and that he will be attending a special school which broke my heart. the summer holidays finished over a week ago and my son is at home with me as he didnt have a school to attend i did my own phoning around schools and got him in one which is a lovely school he is looking forward to starting this week. before looking around the school i didnt know what to expect but once there i know it will be a lot better for my son and he shall receive the care he needs. i still find it hard and still do cry at night when the boys are in bed but i do know it want be this way for ever i shall learn to deal with children who are adhd and my sons will learn how to cope.  if anyone wishes to email me please do

I am so sorry. I too have a son who has ADHD and I cried a lot, still do somedays.

I noticed you are from the United Kingdom, where education is not as it is here in the states. If children have ADHD they have to be sent to a special school? Is this because of ADHD or because your son has learning difficulties?

Are the boys on medication? I know that my son would never be as successful if he wasn't. That is a personal decision, which we did NOT do for the first 2 years and regret it. Our son really suffered far worse than he had to.

Mine is 10 and very ADHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHD and impulsive. He landed himself in trouble, but not on purpose, and he was so sad about it. The kids also picked on him for it and blamed him for the bad things that they did! Thank goodness the teacher and principal caught on.

Please post any questions, thoughts, how you are feeling. A lot of us moms are going through similar "things"

 Hi bethan thanks for that and yes im from the uk were the schools are different were they would sooner jail your kids rather ynan help them.

my two sons are on medication and i felt the same as you at first on weather to give them the medication but since the have been taking it life is that bit easier.

has anybody heard of cd [ conduct disorder ]

Is that the same as oppositional definace disorder? It sounds it. I have heard of it.

Is that what your son is going through? Any depression or a co-existing condition besides the ADHD?

Hi my son does get depressed sometimes or other times he gets so angry that he hits out.

ive talked to his doctor about this and they just say keep an eye on him.
