out of control on stimulants | ADHD Information

The doc is a child psychiatrist. He has not ruled out Bi-Polar, but not officially diagnosed it either. He has PDD and may not respond to the stimulant along with the mood stabilizer.My son has been prescribed Trileptal due to out of control behavior. We have been on Risperdal and Zyprexa - did not help. The doc has told us to try stopping the Dexedrine dosage to see how that works. Has anyone run into this same issue that when a stimulant is paired with a mood stabilizer, behavior becomes worse?

Only when there is a Bi Polar co morbid and the BP is not stable.

Or it could be that Dexadrine is not the right med and a new one needs to be tried....what kind of DR?

This happened to my son as well. It was later determined that he was indeed Bipolar and PDD. So therfore it is not uncommon for this to happen when mixing the two meds.
