Ritalin LA - Does it work? | ADHD Information
Hey, so I've been taking Ritalin LA (20 MG's) for about two weeks and I'm honestly not sure if it's working. Before I was prescribed Ritalin LA, i was taking "Regular" (which i think is another name for instant release) Ritalin 20mg two times a day and i felt like i could really feel the "regular" Ritalin working. Whereas the Ritalin LA doesn't feel as profound and at time i really question it if it's working because i too feel a little more ADHD then when i was taking the "regular" Ritalin. Is it possible that my body doesn't absorb the methylphenidate as well or something along those lines because i just read that what you eat when taking it is key to the efficiency of the medication. Also, i feel as if it could possibly be the dosage? I heard the way that Ritalin LA works is that it first immediately releases half the dose and then within about 4 hours releases the other half of the dose, meaning that I'm basically getting 10mg within each "release". Is it just me or do other people who have taken this medication have been experiencing the same thing? I plan on paying my neurologist a visit and asking her what the problem could be. Also, with both of the medications I've taken, i feel as if they both don't last long enough.
It for sure could be dose. Every medication at every dose affects every person differently. I would discuss with the doctor and see how you do with an icreased dose. RLA is a 10 hour med. Concerta is a 12 hour, may be worth thinking about. Some people take the RLA in the morning, then a short acting Ritalin later in the day for late afternoon coverage. Just a few options to discuss with your doctor. Good luck.
