I was wondering how the Vyvanse is working?
My son has been on it for two months and doing great. We had the positve side effects of better sleeping and improved appetite. He was up all night, everynight during the summer. After 3 weeks on the Vyvanse, he had readjusted his sleep schedule to a more normal and is off to be between 9 and 10 pm. He is one of the pickiest eaters, he has started making better food choices. My son has actually been able to gain some weight. At the begining of August he weighed 3 pounds less than he did last August but he was 8 inches taller. I think he has gained 2 pounds in last few weeks.
Something is going right because my husband has even commented on how much nicer it is to spend time with our son
I have a dd, 12, who has been on almost all of the ADD medications. The majority of them we have had to stop using either because of increased anxiety or nausea. Concerta made her suicidal. Adderall has been the "best" fit so far. If you want to call it that.
We are going to start with Vyvanse next week. Are the side effects less, compared to other ADD meds you have tried? Nausea? Increased anxiety?
Our first day...
30 mg. She is sooooo tired. Took an hour nap late this afternoon. However, all of the meds make her real tired. Does anyone else experience this?
Why would a stimulate make her tired?
Today was the first time my 8 year old son took 30 mg of Vyvanse and has been very calm and tired. Im actually kind of scared never seen him like that something Im not used to. So I guess you can say it does have a sleepy affect because my son is sleepy to. Im assuming that the meds kicked in with his first time taking it. Is that normal?
Well when we got home from being out during the day my son was not tired anymore but the medicine was still in affect. The medicine wore off around 4 pm I was able to tell easily lol. I will keep him on it and see what happens during school.
Beach4me I would take her off it to.
Is there a lower dose than 30mgs? Perhaps the dose is just too high. Has anyone experienced any of the "mood swings" that is typically associated with stimulants?
At present, 30mg is the lowest dose available. There are some studies where they are testing 20mg, 40mg and 60mg.
Beach4me, have you called the doctor? Her reaction doesn't sound typical.
My 7 year old started Vyvanase a few weeks ago... and for the first 4 days he was falling asleep at school, in the car and going to bed at 7 pm which was very abnormal for him... I thought for sure this was another fialed attempt... however after the fourth day he was back to normal... (dont give up too quickly.... Glad my Dr said give it a week ) He takes 50mg at 6am and it is lasting until 7-8 pm... he has a great appetite, sleeping better, and is so much happier He is back to making jokes, and his anxiety level is much lower than when he was on (medidate CD, Focalin XR, Daytrana). This medicine has been great so far... No crashing when he comes down, The Focalin was brutal he would start running around screaming and making noises, and attempts to calm him would be met with aggression.
So far so good... Just dont give up on it too quickly....
Just back from the Ped. Dr. They did a blood test and are fairly certain she has mono. For now, we have stopped Vyanase and wait to see if she actually has mono. Then try again.
I agree that 2 days is not enough time but she can't sleep thru 2 hrs of school for a week.
Hopefully mono is the problem and not the meds
Day 2 and the sleepiness is worse. She slept like a log last night (first time that has ever happen!) However, she took a 2 hr nap and is already in the bed.
She is very ill. Very tired. And has completely lost her smile.
We are done with this med.
