Hi Krispymoon,
I was told that my son was severely ADHD. He is 10, on meds and successful. May I ask if your son is on meds?
I do know that when puberty sets in, it will be time for us to start over with medications because of the changes that the body goes through.
Do you think that there is a co-existing condition? I know that a lot of "specialists" didn't diagnose children with bipolar because to them, children couldn't be bipolar - WRONG!
Why don't you reevaluate your son, with a new doctor and start over. He is older, things change. He may have something else going on as well. Do you think he is depressed??
It is so hard to be a teenager!
Anything going on with school/social etc?
Let us know how things are doing!! We are all here for you both!!
welcome to the board.
Does your son take medications? If so, who manages his meds? As these kids get older many suffer co-existing anxiet and/or depression. Thier world is usually quite "out of their control", imagine the frustration!
hi ther, i know what you are going through. my son is 16 now and has episodes of extreme anger, was also on meds since he was 5. the temper outbursts started when he was about 12 .half of it i think is a combination of adhd and puberty ..they get to an age when they know there is something differnt about them ,,that leads to frustration, hense the temper outbursts.i got anger management sessions fr my son as well and had difficulty getting him there sometimes. the trick is dont have a huge argument about it . this only leads to more aggravation. if he refuses to go just say ok we will talk about it later. then pick a moment wen he in an ok mood and discuss it calmly. also let the therapist know whats goin on , give him/her a phonecall .hope im some help to you
shar
I have nothing to add exept hugs
Mild...severe...these are all subjective descriptions, and I would not pay any attention to this. It's bogus. I would also not share this information with my child. Anger & refusal to be further analyzed by yet another specialist -- these seem like the result of long term negative experiences. Perhaps he feels downtrodden, criticized, overwhelmed, over-analyzed. I suggest that you VERY CAREFULLY select a MALE therapist for him. And I mean, interrogate the therapist and ask for recommendations from teens with ADHD. I would send him to a therapist who has successfully treated ADHD teens. NoTellin39341.8840509259Is he on the same meds since he started? I am told and have seen, that when kids reach puberty that you may have to switch or try a new med.
Hello, this is my first post on board. I have son who is 14 yrs. he is was diagnosed at age 4yrs. the specialist said he is one of worse ADHD cases he ever saw. I wont go into long details..but what I have noticed for several years is his increased anger at everything. His tone of voice the way he acts. I have taken him to specialist after specialist. He finally got to where he was so distressed because he didnt want to go that I quit taking him..it didnt seem to be helping. Has anyone else experience this? I love him dearly and want the best in life for him. thanks
