ADD and IQ tests | ADHD Information

That sounds about right to me.  It makes sense that when you have more time, you can slow down.  That is why a common accomodation in college for ADDers is extra time on tests.  I was also told that the smarter you are, the longer you can get by in life wihtout everything blowing up on you.

Personally, I have never had an official IQ test, but the online ones usually score around 125-135.  I was diagnosed my Junior year of college when the end of my sophomore year was horrible.  I know that when given extra time on tests, grades went up over one full letter grade too.

I also get the you are too smart to have ADHD.
I was diagnosed as a middle-schooler, but never really did anything about it. It finally caught up with me, and I just went to get re-diagnosed as an adult.
Long story short, the first psych I went to concluded I don't have ADD, I'm just lazy, have a bad attitude about life, am disorganized, and have severe processing difficulties.
Anyway, his conclusions were based on the WAIS-III IQ test he made me take. He said that he had noted no ADD or ADHD behaviors over the 4 one hour sessions in which I took the test.

The WAIS-III splits IQ into a bunch of different 'subscales'. The basic conclusion was that I scored very high (145 on the verbal, 127 on... something that escapes me right now...) on anything that didn't involve a time limit. But as soon as a clock was introduced, my scores dropped considerably (107 on the performance subscale, 97 on the processing subscale). According to what internet research I have done, this kind of score difference shows a lack of activity in the same cortexes of the brain affected by ADD.

The second psych I went to see chalked the lack of 'space cadetness' during the testing up to the novelty of the test and test activities. He also said the results I got on the test, while not enough for a diagnosis, were extremely typical of ADD people. I was wondering if you guys had any experiences similar, or different with the IQ tests. I was also wondering, for those who took IQ tests, how many of you showed similar result patterns.

Enjoy life,

I tend to agree with the second doctor.
