medication dosage | ADHD Information
My daughter has been taking concerta 27mg for 1 year. Im not really sure that it really has worked that well for her. Im wondering if she is overmedicated. She was on 20mg of adderal XR when the doc put her on the 27mg of concerta. I think the 20 mg was too high of a dosage. She is not getting any work done at school and just sits there lost basically. She is in 6th grade. What are the symptoms of overdosage?it really sounds to me like she is over medicated....granted I'm not a doctor...but when they bumped up my son's medication and he acted like that they said it was too high and lowered him. I can't remember off the top of my head what the lower dose of Concerta is....but I would ask your dr about it......it isn't normal for her just to sit there in a daze. poor thing!
Is she "lost", as in cannot get the teacher's instructions and then zones out from bordom? My oldest does this when not medicated or when the dose is too low. She did well on 36mg concerta and does well on 20mg focalin (focalin is twice as strong as regular methylphenidate). Adderal is also close to twice as strong as methylphenidate. Talk to the doc about your concerns and see if he/she thinks the dose is too low or high. The teachers say she just looks lost and like she is somewhere else. She often plays with her pencils, etc. in class or is drawing. We will be talking to the dr. tomorrow. Does 27mg seems too high to start her out on (Concerta). It is available in 18mg, 27mg, 36mg.
I don't really get to see her on the meds but it is different in a classroom setting also. She would be more calm but she doesn't have any behavioral issues so I would need to see her in class.
I wonder as Vickie does, is it boredom or sort of "zombieish" (like that word? ).
I have daughter this age and we have a big problem with her falling asleep during social studies, am never sure if it's meds or boredom. What is she like outside school on meds?
