Want to switch from Adderall XR to IR | ADHD Information

If your doctor won't give you a generic, go see another one.  Once you have been tested and diagnosed almost any physician or psychiatrist will write you a prescription after a short interview.  Your doctor should have no reason not to give you a different medicine that is available in generic form if you have no prior history of drug abuse.

One reason that some doctors will try to keep you from switching to generics is because the pharmaceutical companies give them big incentives to push their newest drug.  This is why all the doctors are pushing Shire's new drug Vyvanse now instead of Adderall XR, because the Adderall XR patent is about to run out and it will then be available in generic form, which means the pharmaceutical company loses a lot of money.

Hi all,

Im currently on Adderall XR-10mg.  I like it so far. Though i dont feel much of a difference.  I still have trouble focusing on one thing at a time. But i can maintain conversations and i am getting a bit more of my goals done. I still have huge issues with starting stuff and never finishing them. I get a great idea for a project, start it and maybe about 1/3 of the way through, i get bored and am ready for something else. But i can say im am one step better now.

My problem is Adderall XR is quite expensive for me. Id prefer the generic. Even if my doc has to switch me to another ADD med that has generic, i would go for it.  My best friend who is on Adderall IR said that doctors are less prone to give you the generic because it can be abused easier. Is this true?

I do notice that the XR doesnt last as long as it says. When i take it at 8 am by 2-3 pm im already getting tired and dont feel it working at all. Is this normal? Why would i spend all this extra money i certainly dont have on a med that doesnt even last as long as it says.  If i asked my doctor for generics would he think im trying to abuse it?  I dont really like people thinking i want to abuse anything since im going to start going to school to be a crime scene investigator. Do cops and law enforcement take Adderall? Are they allowed?

Please help since i am seeing my doc on Monday.  This is my first month taking Adderall so i dont know too much about it.

Thanks everyone
