Daytrana & Skin Reactions | ADHD Information
Hello - I am brand new to forums and my husband found this one on line for me. My 5 year old son was diagnosed with ADHD in May'07. We did the medication dance and FINALLY found the miracle which was 5mg of Ritalin in the AM followed by the Daytrana patch (10mg). It was awesome....
2 months into the "routine", his skin around his hips was not recovering in a 24 hour period. The Dr. told us to stop using it and we tried: plain Ritalin (7.5 mg/3X's a day), then Medate CD (20mg) then Vyvanse (30mg) - which was way too high...
Today he was crying for his patch back (my poor baby) and my question is if any of you have had this problem but came up with a solution for the irritation to keep using it? With the Daytrana he had little to no side effects - it was wonderful - but with the oral meds., his emotions are all over.
The doctor has also mentioned to us that she feels the closest solution to the patch may be Concerta.
I worry about changing all these meds. every 3 or 4 days - do i need to give him the weekend with no meds and then try something Monday.
Any help would be appreciated - I don't know what to do...
make surw you switch hips, and maybe alter the place on the hip a bit. Sme have used Nasonex, flonase or Nasalcrom)otc) on the hip to help with irritation. Daytrana is supposed to be somewhat irritating, that is how the meds get into the skin, but some are more sensitive than others. i have alternated sides but your suggestion is very very helpful - thank you so much! I will look into the nasal spray right now....
Look at the thread that says Daytrana (patch)? It is now up to 17 pages, and
a LOT of it deals with this issue. Let me know how it goes. I am trying to
convince my dr. to start it and I am using this web site as my resource!!!
