Stimulant medications are not blood level medications so at some point after effectiveness wears off, the medication flushes right out of your system so when medication is restarted, effectiveness is seen in thesame amount of time it was seen the last time the child was given the med. Straterra,on the other hand is a non stimulant medication which is a blood level medication and could take up to 6 weeksbefore the full effect of the medication is seen.
I was wondering what everyone does when it comes to the weekend. My doctor told me that my son (12) only needs to take the meds for school days. He is on Adderall regular. We just increased to 30mg taken at 7am. Haven't started that yet until Monday. My understanding is that Adderall does not need to 'build up' in the system so it doesn't need to be taken every day. He is fine on the weekends and really only needs it to focus on school work.
Any thoughts?
I take my meds every day....in order to be diagnosed with ADHD, you're supposed to be affected in more than one area of your life....without them, I kinda fall apart lol. I take adderall xr and quick-release when needed. Adderall xr does build up in your system, although not to the same degree that strattera does.
