Clonidine at 4 p.m. (1/2 of a 0.2mg. tab) helped with our son's' rebound.
Then a full Clonidine at bedtime.

It sounds like rebound to me, maybe a booster dose in the evenings would help. Lowering the melatonin might help also, it works better at lower doses, less than 3 mgs.

I know I am delusional, but my son was started on FocalinXR 5 mg and the doc was intending on going up to 10 but, the teacher days he is doing great in school. His report for meds were all A's and O negative behaivior. After school is different. He is a bouncing off the walls like a nuttbal after his homework at 5 pm and he geets very hungry, and agitated and anxious, His old symptoms.(I am assuming this is the let down period) I am wary about a booster due to his lack of sleep, problems(He takes 5mg Melatonin now and it helps somewhat). If he is performing well in school and getting his homework done(although not always pleasant) do I need to medicate him more? And the boy won't swallow anything. How I am going to hide another med is beyond me. He spits it out still sometimes and he is 9 years old. On one hand I feel he might need some extra help of somesort on the other I hate to medicate him for me, I want to do it for him.Our experience has been that the sleep disorder decreases a bit when he
still has a little bit of meds left in his system at bedtime. He has actually
been able to express this, talking about how crazy his brain feels when the
medicine is all gone. (For us, this meant a booster at 4 pm.) It unfortunately
takes a very rigid schedule to make this work. Bedtime has to be at exactly
the same time every night. In our experience, and late bedtimes turn into
hours and hours of tantrums and out of control behavior.

riochico,

My youngest is the same way. She always had a mind that was too busy to sleep-constantly inventing things. With meds (either a stimulant or guanfacine -alone or together) she has been much better at getting to sleep. She nows gets to sleep by 10, which to some parents of 11 year olds sounds awful, but she used to be awake until around 1AM.  This was since birth.
