Adderall and shortness of breath? | ADHD Information

I have been on Adderall for about 10 months now.  On occasion I get days where I cannot get a deep enough breath.  Not shortness of breath -- I feel like my breathing is too shallow.  I struggle to get a "satisfying" breath.  Does this sound familiar to anyone?I am not on adderall but I know the exact feeling you are talking about. I
hope it is not a common side effect of adderall, I am hoping to try it next
month when I see my dr!

I have an Alison too. I get the same thing and I too have gotten over it. I more commonly get it when I don't get enough sleep. I've also found taking a consistent amount of adderall everyday instead of changing doses and then having days of not taking it will greatly help with the side effects.

This is what I feel associated with anxiety. When I took the first dose of Xanax my GP prescribed, one of the most pronounced effects was that after about 30 minutes I could "breathe easier" just like the slang term is used to describe lessening your worries/anxiety.

Shallow breathing is from the anxiety. I have anxiety and was on Xanax. had to stop taking it, it became addicting. I had shallow breathing. You may have this as a small side effect of the Aderall. Def ask the dr. if he suggests Xanax, its not really necessary because all you need to do is stop what you are doing for just a few minutes and focus on it then it will pass.

I have had that feeling many times over the course of my life.  It seems (for me) to be associated with anxiety more than anything.  If I relax and try not to focus on it, it passes more quickly.  It could be that the Adderall is triggering it.  Do mention it to your doc, but I don't think it is probably anything serious.

I don't know if it is a common side-effect or not.  It is not one I typically have to deal with.  When I started the Adderall I had a bit of the same breathing problem but it went away.  I've been on it now for nearly a year and only changed the dosage once.  But that wasn't a recent change.  I have a med check appointment this week so I am going to mention it.  We will see what they say.  Otherwise my biggest side effect has been insomnia.  But I've managed to cope by simply going to bed later and still getting up at my regular time.

How funny we both have Alison's.  Mine has ADD too, so sometimes it is a real challenge for us to deal with each other -- and for others to deal with BOTH of us

Now the sleep thing makes sense!  I haven't really been dealing with any anxiety, so that didn't seem to be the root of this breathing issue.  But the lack of sleep does make sense.  I have been trying to cope with my insomnia and have stayed up later than I normally do.  And now I encounter breathing issues.
