Medicine how you know...effective | ADHD Information
Depending on the age of the child, the child may be able to help. Otherwise, you will need feedback from the teacher and watch the child on the weekends. If the child has hyperactivity, this will go way down with proper dose, if the issue is strictly inattention, it will be harder to tell. For my oldest (inattentive), at a proper med dose she "hears" the teacher's instructions better on meds and does not lose her assignments. For the youngest (hyper and inattentive), at a proper med dose she gets most of her work done in class and what homework she brings home is quickly finished, her hyperactivity goes way down, she is not as argumentative and does not bother her sister as much. The afterschool observations are only good if the med is one that is still effective after school and has not worn off.
I have a couple of questions since this would be the best place for it. One how long does it usually take to see a difference with the medications. Two how do you know if your child needs a higher dose?
