are there ANY sucess stories on here? | ADHD Information

geee, i've been reading all these side effects and now am getting paranoid about taking strattera yeti wont do adderal or ritalin cause i know myself and i could easily get addicted to sometihng like that as i have  in the  past doped myself up on meds and did a lot of self adjusting for my own sake.

now please someone tell me of some good things that are about strattera, like no dreams, sleeping well, no sexual side effects, etc...for  the women anyways????

thanks!

It's almost impossible to abuse concerta or Adderall XR. Here's why, too much adderall doesn't make you speed it makes you sick. Plus, if you really are add too much adderall makes you sleepy. Concerta can't really be abused since you can't crush it (the only way to abuse Ritalin is to snort it)  The one drug you should avoid is Dexedrine. Man, that stuff is really attractive.

But the biggest reason is you won't have enough meds to abuse. I wouldn't let that stop me from getting help. The addiction thing is way overblown and almost always has it's root in some busy-body's web-page - who has no medical training. Get your advice from actual medical sources and you won't be afraid.

thank you for the reply!  it is nice to know that info cause i become a statistic like others on here who gave it up due to side effects then it is so nice to know i have alternatives!

though i am hoping beyond hope that i am one of thee lucky ones who will have a sucess story to share with others and give them hope as this board has not given me any hope for this med and i am worried now and going to be watching for any little side effect that i have read on here...

I think it is possible to abuse any drug. But my guess is that if you are so inclined, you have ample opportunity to abuse alcohol also. So if you can drink occasionaly without dropping into a drunken binge, you probably are not that "addictable". On the other hand, if you have a hard-core addictive personality and require a total abstinence and a 12-step program (one day at a time) to stay sober, you probably should not be taking anything including Straterra (my opinion only).

Concerta (time release formulation of Ritalin) is very consistant and mild. Also, you doctor will probably only prescribe one month's worth at a time.

It is not the type of medication that will give you a real strong "buzz". I used to "self-medicate" also. But I have had no problem sticking to my Concerta prescribed dosage. It just feels like it makes me alert and clears my head.

Straterra is a very strange acting drug. And it may be too new to determine if it really is not addictive anyway. It was developed originally as an anti-depressant.
