Going beyond maximun Adderall doses | ADHD Information

I've been prescribed up to 120MG a day (30mg 4x daily) when I went manic from being on Zoloft (misdiagnosed bi-polar and then misdiagnosed with depression at the same time.) I was sleeping every other day and lost 60 lbs to an unhealthy weight (I am an adult male also, although I was only 18 at the time.) I ended up being sectioned 8'd into a mental hospital against my will (moron social worker.) Well in the hospitol they took me off all the meds (120mg adderall, lamictal, zoloft and ativan) and I was a complete mess. They wouldn't let me out until I told them what they wanted to hear. The reason for putting me there was 'stimulant dependance.' I knew the whole time that they were wrong (oh wow, imagine, an 18 year old knowing more than the people who spent 10 years in school studying this, it just couldn't be possible!) They said I was addicted to it and blah blah blah. Remember, I took this medication EXACTLY as prescribed. My Mom gave me a pill box every week and even watched me take each dose. At the end of the week she'd take the Adderall from the safe and refill the pill box. She even told the Social worker this. I had told her 2 days before when I agreed with my parents that I'd go to the hospitol for help. When I went to the hospital, they refused to admit me and told me I just needed a therapist and to come see her in 2 days. Yea, that changed when I went to see her. Anyways I tried for 2 months without the Adderall and couldn't do anything. I literally, could not concentrate for more than 30 seconds on anything if my life depended on it. They started me back on the Adderall @ 10mg and I've asked for an increase every 6 months. My doctor has been ridiculous about prescribing me more than where I'm at right now (60MG a day but I take 90mg and have been taking 90mg daily for almost a year.)

Long story short I actually had less side effects from the actual medication when I went from 30mg to 90mg. At 120MG I was too messed up from another medication to notice any side effects. The most I've been on is 90mg when not manic (only was manic for 9 months of my life and it was the whole time I was on Zoloft) and I don't get any side effects anymore. I take the same amount every single day and don't have any off days. What others think about you is the only side effect I've noticed. I've had several pharmacists recently make my life hell about filling my Adderall and it's been that way since I went back above 40mg/day. Maybe it's my age (20 now) but either way it's not right and is borderline discrimination. I had a pharmacist(piece of @#$# lady) completely refuse to fill my Adderall because it was 1 day early. My insurance was even covering it. She tried making up 5 different things, first telling me it's a state law (which i quickly shot down) then that it was a store policy (which again was shot down, it was CVS pharmacy aka We hire straight from the job corp.)

Medication side effects from higher doses - none.
Horrible treatment from pharmacists and sometimes your own Dr. - Lots.

If you feel you need it then do it. Don't live your life struggling. That's how I feel about it. If you start to have heart problems then go back down. Also, if you need help sleeping, try a real low dose of serequel. It's the only sleeping aide that has ever worked for me with Adderall. Have tried everything and finally found it last year. I'm asleep within 5 minutes every night and I even take a 10mg dose of Adderall 3-4 hours before bed.

I have been on Adderall for a few months and when I was on 40mg, I noticed a very calm feeling like I have never felt in my whole life.  I am 30 and have been ADHD my whole life but never diagnosed.  This initial feeling went away and the Adderall worked on most of the symptoms still but it seems like I need to take 60mg to feel a good benefit from it.

I am on the regular immediate release and I do not know how long the dosages last in my system.  I usually take one does in the morning and another around lunch.  To late in the day and I cannot sleep.

I am up to 60mg but was scared to go that high as I thought that was the absolute max and once there, if I needed more I was out of luck and I have already been on Concerta and Ritalin but they did not work as well as Adderall has.  What happens now?  I do not want to increase the dose forever and exactly how high can you go with Adderall and does it cause nasty side effects if you go higher?
