Son won’t take his meds | ADHD Information

I am not looking for any magic answers, my 9 year old has decided he doesn't want to take his ADHD meds. We went to the phsychiatrist yesterday to refil his RX and he told us, calmly give him his options then allow him to make a choice. Even though he is only 9 (he usually doesn't see this until teen years) maybe he will see the difference between a good day and a bad one and then choose to do the right thing. We also made an apppt. to see a child phsychologist who specializes in ADHD and anxiety, his issues, tommorrow for my hubby and myself to meet him and if we like him he can see him Monday after school. I hope all goes well as this is coming out of my pocket not my insurance and we do not have much. Our old therapist was sliding scale but she did not have enough experience in this area to deal with him. Well I hope all goes well tommorrow as I am quite sure he will CHOOSE not to take his meds today again.

IMO at 9 there are NO choices. If he needed antibiotics for an illness would you give him a choice? I would definetely see another Psych, one who can explain that meds are a necessity at this time, and not a choice.

DD has "refused" to take her meds before and I said "fine, but if you do not take them you do not watch TV, play games( video or otherwise), no stereo, nothing. " She changed her mind quickly.
