So, I have only been on Vyvanse for about 2 weeks and I've never been on anything else - was just diagnosed 2 weeks ago. I have noticed that when Vyvanse is wearing off, it has some negative side effects like increased irritability or sadness and a mild headache. But, when I head outside and go to a park or swim or walk/run as the drug wears off, it seems these negative effects are greatly reduced or not noticeable.
I am wondering if anyone else notices this? I know more kids are on Vyvanse than adults, (I'm 29), and I've read that some of the parents here are finding these negative side effects really hard on their evenings. Perhaps if you find a way to send your kids outside as the drug wears off, you will notice a difference? I don't know, but I thought I would point out my experience and see if anyone else notices the same thing.

ADHDgirl---First day back to school yesterday was good, but did come home with headache...I think wearing off too. Today, took pill and an hour later ds had a coke...within an hour he was calling me from school with a racing heart and feeling jumpy. It did pass within an hour and he was able to stay at school. Did you experience any of that. I'm usually good about the no caffeine. He has not had any anxiety from this pill at all and I'm hoping that was just the bad combo of the caffeine jolt with the start of the pill.I don't drink a whole lot of caffeine, I have a peppermint mocha in the mid-morning and then a soda in the afternoon. But I have found that they actually help me with the anxiety feelings a little bit. Though. it might be the peppermint and chocolate more than the caffeine since there is very little caffeine in it compared to a normal cup of coffee and I was recently reading an article about peppermint oil's benefits.
I'm no expert, but I think a child would react more strongly to the caffeine and if it wasn't diet, than the sugar on top of that in a soda and that was probably it when it was combined with a stimulant. I have read that they don't recommend caffeine and stimulants together. I have had a few times where my heart would start racing, but those were caused by the panic attacks that have increased slightly, I think. I would try limiting caffeine and refined sugar for a while and see if that helps.

My son started on 30mgs. He experienced the same thing after the first two days. He doubled the dose and it was perfect.
He loved the patch but with all his sports, it keep sliding off his body. He said this feels very simular to the patch. Happy. Happy. Happy.
