School, home and away | ADHD Information

I have a 5 yr old son with ADHD. He has been on meds for about 8 months. He takes adderall xr at 15 mg. He started kindergarden this year and was doing great with his behavoir. All of a sudden he is acting out. He is talking back, hitting, talking about poop and other things. The work is also very difficult for him. He started out behind and is falling even further. In his school the kids are starting to read and it has only been 6 weeks. He is also being disreapectful to me and is obsessive about some things. He will get a thought and just not let it go. I do not know what to do. Punishing and rewarding him does not seem to work long term. We have tried so many things and it alsways wears off. Im starting to wonder if he needs a different medication or some other form of help. Please help me. I am just unsure of where else to go with this. His doctors just tell me he will get better with time, but I do not believe that he will. Maybe an appt with the Psych could figure out what is going on. Med change probably. Who diagnosed? 5 is awfully young for an accurate diagnosis. He was diagnosed by a psych twice in fact. Once at 4 and once at 5 by two differnt doctors and pediatricianss. I was told it is hard to diagnose at an early age but he has all the classic signs and symptoms since about 3yrs.I agree I would talk to his doc about the behaivior and the meds. He is young but can still be treated.

Have you asked for an sped evaluation at school?  He can get some help with the behavior there because medication isn't the whole answer.  And if he is getting behind in school he can get some help that way too.  You have to ask for it in writing.
