Problem getting meds filled? | ADHD Information
My son (soon to be 6) was diagnosed a few weeks ago by a third doctor. It's been about a 1 1/2 since I took him to the first doctor. Well I finally decided to try meds with him because this is affecting him the most at school. So I finally get the script and the pharmacy says the insurance company needs prior authorization? What exactly does this mean? The pharamacist says it's because of his age? She also said that they may cover a non controlled substance for a child his age? Is this the call of the insurance company to make? This is the second pharmacy that has refused to fill it. You need to have your doctor fill out the forms for the insurance company explaining the need for the medication. I had the same problem when I doctor wrote no subsitution on my Adderall prescriptions. Big pain in the butt!
What medication is it? Tell me it's not Adderall...
Some insurance companies( Mine included) won't cover CNS stimulants for kids under 7, unless they are diagnosed by a Child Psychiatrst, because the meds have not been researched in kids under 6 I think. Maybe yours has the same policy. Yes it is Adderall. Adderall XR 5 mg. Why do you ask???
