Hi All

My son (7 1/2) was diagnosed with inattentive ADHD.  We went through every test and modifcation I could before I would resort (accept) medication.  He went thru 6 weeks of testing with a psychologist, IQ testing, hearing tests, vision tests.  He has just started 18mg of Concerta 3 days ago.  How long will it take before it starts "working".  I know it may need to be adjusted - I already have the next appt scheduled in 3 1/2 weeks.  I just want his days to be easier.

I tried to search for this, but the search isn't that great on here - so sorry if I am posting something that is posted a lot.

Even though we saw some immediate results it took about 2 weeks to see the full result of the dose. Give it a little time.

In my experience the effects are seen almost immediately.  Sometimes the level of medication needs to be adjusted for the best results.  This is just how my two kids reacted.  Your experience may differ.

I agree you would generally see results within hours. As posted above it may take a couple of weeks to "tease out" levels and side effects, but if you are seeing no symtpom relief, it is probably too low of a dose or not the right med. Thank you for your replies!  I thought there were changes over the weekend - being more focused.  But when I talked to his teacher last night she said it usually takes a week for them to see change.  So I started thinking I just saw change because I wanted too... KWIM?  My son has been on Concerta for two weeks and we saw a slight change immediately, mostly with focusing, but for the last several days he's been back his old self.  He is struggling in school to get his work done and not cooperating at home as much either.
