Tenex and anxiety | ADHD Information

When the doc added risperdal to my youngest daughter's treatment, I asked if we would be stopping the guanfacine (Tenex). I was told that we would keep it on board for the benefits and see where the risperdal took us. The guanfacine helps when the stimulant is not in her system and helps with peer interactions so we are keeping it on board. Take a look at what the Tenex is helping with and discuss with the doc the pros and cons of keeping it. If it is just for anxiety, it may not be needed. If it helps with other issues or augments the ambify, it wi worth keeping on.Thanks, Vickie.

I can see Tenex helps calm him in some ways. He is going with the flow in the class. He is not as disruptive. He is on task most of the time.

The way I describe the changes with Tenex is : On regular basis, on a scale of 1-10 If my son was an 8 (5 being normal) with occasional 10s now he is 6 with spikes of 9-10 on daily basis.

Do I make sense?

I am not sure we are benefiting. It is more like a change than benefit.
My son (6) started on Tenex(guanfacine) couple months ago. He has ADHD and anxiety. He did not do well on Metadate CD, Zoloft, and Concerta. His doctor suggested Abilify at very low dose (1/4 of mg). I was too afraid of Abilify and asked for an alternative. She suggested Tenex. I don't consider it a miracle drug but at least we are seeing some improvements. Less hyperactivity but the problem is I am seeing more anxiety. This was supposed to help with anxiety. He has been biting his finger nonstop. So now his doctor wants him on Abilify (very low dose).

Two weeks before we started the Tenex we started him on a homeopathic remedy (Barita Carbonica). It worked instantly and we saw significant improvement in his speech.

Now my question is: Should we stop Tenex (gradually of course) and see how he will do with Abilify and homeopathy alone? His doctor thinks Tenex is working and we should keep him on it. His doctor is very knowledgeable and I trust her fully but I learned long time ago to trust my gut and other parents first.

Thanks in advance
