strattera and weight loss | ADHD Information
Could anyone with kids on strattera please give me some information on how it initially affected their weight. My 13 year old daughter is going to be prescribed strattera. She has not been on any meds before but is on the verge of being underweight at the moment and I have heard the drug can cause significant weight loss in the initial stages. Both of my kids take strattera and it doesn't affect their appetite. My older one had some stomach pain the first few days. We also switched from morning to night when it seemed that he wasn't eating as well. It makes my younger one tired - it's been a little more difficult to wake him in the morning for school especially if we give it to him too close to bedtime. In my experience, the side effects are very light, especially compared to stimulants. Good luck.
Strat did not affect DD's weight at first, but did eventually cause an appetite increase. If it is ramped properly, and dosed according to her wieght you shouldn't see any problems. It has decreased my son's appetite. He seems to eat in spurts. Lost 5 lbs so far. He's the beanpole type.I would try it, it was intended as an anti depressant, so it may help. oh I'm sorry I thought you said she was on it. I'd probably try it too, but watch her closely, goes without saying. Thanks for your replys. Could anyone also tell me, my daughter has climbed onto her window sill and threatend to jump on a couple of occasions and talks about killing herself quite a lot does anyone taking strattera know if it can make these feelings worse. My son just started on Strrattera and it's all over the literature that thoughts of suicide is a documented side effect. Please call your doctor as soon as possible
angie
Tess absolutley call your doctor and yes Stratterra can increase these kinds of thoughts.
Whether it's the Stratterra or not this warrants a check in with the doctor IMO.
My daughter is not currently taking Strattera but her phsychiatrist has said that is what he is going to prescribe. Her phsycologist knows all about her being on the window sill and that she constantly says she wishes she was dead. I dont think Stattera is the write drug for her but he seems to think it will improve her concentration.Opinions please???????
