hello and good morning
im new to the forums. i have a 5 1/2 year old son who show signs of having add. i asked his doctor about it this summer when we went to get the kindergarden physical, but the doctor told me to wait and see how he is in school and the teacher would make some suggestions to me. well its 2 months into school and he comes home with notes everyday saying he cannot listen, cant focus, hits other children, doesnt do his work. she is a first year teacher so she has no experience with noticing adhd..not her fault, but not helping us. i have made my son an appointment to be assessed next week. in the meantime, my husband and i are doing all we can to learn more about it and ways to control his behavior. i have been reading about children with adhd being allergic to ceisin, whey...protein found in milk and wheat. has anyone had any experience in chaning their childrens diets to control their behavior? we really dont want to medicate him, but if that is what is needed then we will. but we would like to take other steps in trying to modify him. if anyone can throw any information or their experiences my way i would greatly appriciate it. thanks!
A good behavior plan is helpful with these kids and is an important part of treatment. Look at the marble system by ogram (top thread of this forum) for an example.
One minor correction to NoTellin's post. The diet is the Feingold Diet and they have a web site: http://www.feingold.org/
