Tenex (guanfacine) generally Decreases Norepinephrine levels, while Strattera Increases Norepinephrine levels, so it seems that they would"cancel " each other out in that respect. Clonidine would do the same.
Usually Tenex or Clonidien is used with a stim, rarely with Strat or some of the other 3rd line meds.
This is odd to me...my son has been taking Strattera since May (?) and recently had his teachers fill out several forms. When we discussed them, she felt his attention was better but impulsiveness was still a problem so she prescribed Tenex (I'm not even sure of the dosage , but I know it's only 1/2 a tablet in the a.m. - terrible of me, I'm usually very vigilant on this, but I'm at one of those "when will it finally end" crying stages - as she said..."well, if this doesn't work, guess we'll just have to put him down". What's even worse, she sure got a giggle out of me!!!
my son is 5 1/2 and has been on straterra for 5 weeks now. he has 25mgs a day and seems to be okay on it. however his attention at school seems to have improved, by producing some nice school work and pictures and showing an interest in his work. which is something very new!! but the impulseivness is still a problem with violent outbursts and comments that makes me cringe whenever he opens his mouth. will this fade away with time or is this gonna be a problem for life. can anyone help!!!
