22 chem student seeks help | ADHD Information

i recently lost my insurance through Kaiser because my parents did not want to pay the cost of health insurance. i have tried health services through the school looking for ways to get a prescription for Dexedrine but none have panned out. they gave me the # to the county but they do not return my phone calls. i found a private practice who offered me 300$ for evaluation and 100$ for follow ups. i have all the proper documents from High School.

school is getting harder and i am running out of time.
If you have any suggestions or ideas please let me know. i am not a bad kid, I've just been placed in a really bad situation.

here is a real answer,  find a MD (family doctor) explain the situation, of course you will have to pay roughly (60.00) Tell him your history, tell him your suffering and its effecting your quality of life (only if its true) Wait a minute are you ADD or ADHD? Anyway if you are and have used dexedrine in the past you need to take responsibility and do this for yourself. I hope your not looking for illegal unethical advice. Good Luck 

ADD/ADHD are the same thing, it is all referred to as ADHD now.

If you have not had  a Psych eval then you need one before you need meds.

I agree NJM.  You have all the documentation, it is not a new diagnosis.  Find a local general practitioner, take your paperwork, and tell them what is going on.  It may take a few tries.  I know my old doc refused to prescribe meds and sent me to a psychiatrist (even though i had an eval), but once he retired, the doc who took over for him has been managing my ADHD and other health issues. 

Alternatively, if you were on meds in high school, can you go home to visit that doc?  On a side note, if plain old ritalin will work for you, it is very cheap.  In college I had to pay for all meds out of pocket and get reimbursed later, and ritalin was the cheapest (around a month for generic).

thanks for the replies. i am adhd if that makes a difference and i have contacted my "family" doctor who worked at kaiser but they brushed me off. as of right now my only option is to get adderall through a friend who knows a dealer (illegal).
i really dont know what else i can do.
