Not taking the meds daily can increase side effects and will not allow the body to adjust and the side effects to subside. Once you have consitant dosing, if the rebound does not go away, a low dose before the first one wears off may help. These are things to discuss with the doc and the doc may be able to explain things in a way that keeps your son taking the meds daily.

There was a time that my youngest would refuse meds when she was mad. At the time I explained that she could not take them only when she felt like it because they would not work as well and would have harder side effects. I told her she had a choice and it was in her control, she could quit the meds or take them daily, and she had to decide. She decided she would take them daily. In her case, I knew she was trying to get control of the situation so I gave her control. I did remind her how much easier her homework had been on meds and how much play time she had on meds, so she had reason to keep on them.

He needs to see the Psych, it sounds as if it is either not the med for him, or there is a nother problem. My 9 year old is on FocalinXR 5 mg. the first time he was on for 2 weeks and although rebounds weren't great they got tolerable. Now he keeps taking and not taking them. The rebounds are Horriffic and I have found his behaivior during the day to be like a mad dog. He hold this part in at school. He also gets upset stomaches at bedtime. Is this due to the fact that he is not regular with the med? I know it is supposed to have the least side effects. but the anger and rage don't sound normal to me. Has anyone else experienced this. I don't find many that do. Then I read it means his dose is not high enough. Wouldn't that just make the anger worse? He performs and functions in school well.  It is hometime that has become hell! spamula39362.2469560185
