Tips for College Students with ADHD/ADD | ADHD Information

Share

Hello,

I am gathering material for college students with ADD and would like anyone's personal advice regarding schoolwork (college, not high school or below), social life, work - basic things like that. I am looking for anything that might help students with ADD organize, focus and stay on track when in college.

If anyone can help with tips, advice, info, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you!

Hi I'm also in college right now. I'm a twice exceptional with adhd. These are things that I had experienced and I think is the most important, but which I keep doing again and again o.0

1. You need to remind them again and again what is their assignment. I tend to have problem when I took more than two classes e.g. mixed up assignment. I took four classes, one class have quiz/exam the next day, I thought that the it's the other class that have exam/quiz so I study wrong subject.
2. Again encourage them REALLY HARD (call them every morning, pick them up, etc) to keep up with attendance. At the first two weeks of my classes I tend to do fine, and starting the third week I will skip class again and again until I miss 50% of the class, and struggle to keep up (actually 50% is my best, once I skip 95% of them T_T). Skipping class is something that's hard no to do!!! I hate myself for this.
3. Coffee, fasting, and music really helps me when studying. When I have exam and remember that I have exam, I would study 2 days in advance and fast for that day (not eating anything) until noon, then drink coffee with sugar and whip cream, and turn on ipod. I can study without the need to pay attention to the leaves outside or global warming. Coffee works wonder without stupid side effect of ritalin :)
LDA.39364.880462963I'm in high school right now, but I've been looking at colleges recently.
All the colleges I look at have an academic help center for every student
with walk in tutors, peer tutors, academic advising and much more than
that. Then they have help for sudents with ADHD and learning disbalities
too.
For example, they always offer extra time on tests and a different room to
take them in. Sometimes they have notetakers or tape recorders you can
use. Some have a specialists and classes for students like notetaking and
organizations( a lot of times they offer classes like that for every student).
Just to give you an idea I copied a list of accodations for a public college
in my area from the pinceton review.

A student can go to their college website or to websites like the college
board and the princeton review. You have to have certain documentation
and you have to apply for accomadations. All colleges offer extra help for
ADHD students. For me it's not a big deal to use these services, since a
am used to getting extra help. A lot of college students don't take
advantage of the help offered to hem by the school. I would advise all
college students to look into these services.musicfanatic39365.5606712963
