Hi!
In researching Strattera I found this board and hope you can answer a question for me. My DS who is now 12 has been on ADHD meds since he was 6. They have worked great for us. He currently takes Concerta. Recently, we have noticed that it is becoming harder for him to concentrate on his homework and focus at evening soccer practice. The doctor doesn't want to up his Concerta dose (36 mg) because he has some sleep issues. She has recommended starting him on Strattera (while continueing to take the Concerta). Eventually, if the Strattera works she would take him off of the Concerta. My question is this: She wants him to take 25 mg at night for 4 days and then up it to 40 mg which would be his max dose (he weighs 82lbs). Does this sound okay? From what I have read, it sounds like he should start at 10mg and then go to 25 mg and then move up from there. I would like this to work and don't want it to be messed up with improper dosing to start. We recently moved and this school is new to us and I don't wnat my son to be having weird side affects at school - the transition has been hard enough.
Thanks!
He should be started at 10 mgs, NOT 25, then gradually moved to his target dose which is somewhere between 45-65 mgs( for his weight of 82 lbs). He should starts at 10 mgs, then 18 mgs, then 20, then 25 etc. ELi Lilly, the makers of Strat have a Ramp pack that they give Dr's specifically because it has to be ramped slowly.
He could continue the Concerta, indefinetely while taking Strat.
Thanks!
