ADHD and puberty | ADHD Information

yes to it all. Puberty affects everything. You may need to look at meds. It's hard to know what is "hormonal" and what's is ADHD, but it doesnt really matter, if he needs help, he needs help. My daughter is 13 also and it is quite the challengeI have an add 13 year old.  Puberty is moody, forgettfullness, disorganization, and distraction.  Testing the boundries and finding out who they are.  Sounds just like adhd huh?  Except more extreme I think with add.  My oldest isn't medicated so I do not know if the need for different meds at this time is called for.  But I have heard that when adhd kids go through puberty that their meds may effect them different.  Going to a new school and moving out of state may be playing a big factor in your son's behavior also.  Just moving to a different apt and a different school last year was bad for my son and took most of the year for him to settle in the new school.

I'm not sure where to post this - hopefully I have the right place.  My 12 year old son has ADHD.  He was diagnosed when he was 5 and has been on medication since that time.  I am fortunate in that my son is also very bright so with that and his medication things have gone very well in school.  He gets A's, is in the gifted program and hasn't been  a behavior problem (don't get me wrong, he isn't perfect but I'd consider things "normal").  We have had some minor social issues at times.  My question, does puberty effect ADHD?  THings are different with my son (he is really stressed out about school and he has never been this way before) and I'm trying to figure out what is his ADHD and what is normal 12 year old behavior.  I should also add that we moved to another state this summer so we are dealing with a new school as well.  I am not very impressed with the school overall (and I did my homework when looking for schools) and unfortunately my son seems to have gotten a terrible teacher.  I have actually considered home schooling (something I said I would never do!).  I'm really confused and it has occurred to me recently that maybe puberty has something to do with what I'm seeing.

Thanks for your input!
