Lamictal--mood stabilizer | ADHD Information

M 11 year old is having some aggression problems and the doctor has prescribed lamictal. We did 25 mg for two weeks the bumped up to 50 mg for another two weeks. I haven't seen a change yet.  Has anyone else tried lamictal?

The doctor gave us a trial pack. Does any one else have trouble getting the pills out of this packs. They are little pills and I have disentergrated 2-3 pills just trying to get them out of the package.

Lamictal is primarily for Epilepsy, but also used for Bi-Polar disorder. My 6 year old daughter is taking Lamictal and is up to 100mgs a day (100mg pill split in 1/2 taken twice a day).

Her Neurologist mentioned about Lamictal being a mood stabilizer before when I said she's moody (She also has ADHD and takes Concerta 18mg for that).

However, her Psychiatrist  told me that the Lamictal would not work on my daughters moods because she does not have Bi-Polar disorder or any form of depression.

It may very well be the dosage needs to hit his/her target range for it to help.. or your child's aggression is not related to depression or bi-polar

I was being treated for ADHD by my old psychiatrist.  She died and so I went to new doc.  He decided I wasn't ADHD as much as I was bi-polar.  Put me on lamictal.  Titrated up over 2 months to 200 mg.  I got more and more depressed, more angry and felt like I was in a black hole.  Why did he think I was bipolar?  Because I admitted to mood swings (depression) and racing thoughts.  Only test he gave me was a questionnaire.  Who wouldn't have racing thoughts if they are ADHD?  I hated that medicine so much.  Got off of it and changed doctors.  Now, starting all over again with a new doctor and this time, a complete battery of psych testing.

Also, lamictal is unbelievably expensive.  I pay 20% of the cost and would have cost me over 00 a year!
