I am just going to whine for alittle bit- but in hopes someone has some advice where to go and how to do it.

My daughter's pscyhologist wanted her tested for mood disorder or adhd- and told me that school pscyh can do that. Well, the school says there is not enough evidence that my daughter has a problem to them so they are not going to intervene at all ( granted she is 6 and she has pushed several kids around, yesterday grabbed another students arm and squeezed and scratched it)

So, I was waiting for her pediatrician and her psychologist to talk, Her pediatriciam mentioned started her on Zoloft for odd. Her pschy is against it until she is tested by a psychiatrist.

My insurance does not cover any psychiatrist for pediatrics so all that will be a out of pocket cost. I already paid one pediatric psychologist over 0.00 to tell me her behavior is inherited from her father and that is what her temperment is going to be so I will just have to deal with it. Needless to say, we stopped seeing her.

I am sure all this neuropsych testing ( they are talking like its 7 hours long) will cost lots of money. Being a single parent, how do I afford that without insurance? I would do anything and any amount of money to help her but if you don;t have you don't have it. I have rent bills etc to pay so we can survive first. I am just extremely frustrated because my daughter needs some help( not forever I hope) but just so she can focus and get rid of some of her anger in ways that won't hurt her or someone.

Be aware that adhd is what is considered a spectrum disorder. The top 7% in symptoms (roughly) are considered to be adhd. Below that it can still cause problems but the symptoms are not enough to meet criteria for full adhd. One diagnosis that is sometimes used is

314.9 Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Not Otherwise Specified;   This category is for disorders with prominent symptoms of inattention or
hyperactivity-impulsivity that do not meet criteria for
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.

What this means is that your daughter may have some of the symptoms of adhd but not be severe enough for the school to take action. Bodes well for the future if this is true. The behaviors you describe are not enough to say they strongly indicate adhd. The aggressive behaviors can stem from a number of causes adhd being among them. Might be worth proceeding slowly and working with the school. School is normally where adhd really shows up. Hopefully your child is not full blown adhd and you can work successfully with behavior management.

There are a number of good behavior management systems available on the net including the marble system on this forum. Take the best from all and go from there.

Raising children is never simple.  For some reason they do not come out with an owner's manual. They should, it would make life so much easier.

Dizfriz39371.4602314815Have you gone to your local Department of heath Services? They should be able to help you get her on health insurance (Medicaid, Chip, Northstar)with little or no out of pocket exspense. My daughter is 6 also, and has just after 2 years got dianosed with ADHD inattentive and Bi-Polar. It takes some time as almost all parents will tell you. My daughter does some of the same things yours does. You need to do some searching for information on the net and then start using terms like Bi-Poler disorder so that the school and doctors will pay attention. I had to take my daughter to Metrocare to finally get some help. They might have one in your state. I live in Texas. Good Luck, and for the sake of your child, don't give up. It will get better.

Schools cannot test for Mood Disorders, or ADHD, only Learning Disabilities

I agree, but  Neuropsych is better.

The testing is several hours, or even days of testing, and it is expensive, but ALOT of Psych's will alter their price for uninsured patients, it doesn't hurt to ask

I am at the point I feel like giving upa nd putting up with her behavior. I cannot find anyone that is covered on my insurance so I have decided to pay out of pocket cost. But a neuropschy evaluation is above 00 I was told by several persons. Several doctors tell me the child has to be 8 years old. Several aren't accepting new patients until Next year, what do I do in the meantime? Continue with the counseling/

I looked up all the test the psychologist suggested- they are all IQ tests. What about specific adhd tests? or odd tests?

I already know my child is above average for her age- I am not worried about her having a learning disability but a behavior problem. I want to know why she is so angry all the time before she hurts herself.

What shoudl I do?I think you're right dizfriz--when they come home from the hospital there should be a how-to book tucked in the back of their pampers.

Business idea for someone out there....
