Daytrana - where can you put it on? | ADHD Information

I thought all was great with Daytrana but one month in it's starting to bother my son's skin.  For the first 2 weeks, it didn't leave any red (just the glue which I can't get off!) but now it's started and today my son said it hurt for the first time. Of course, dh seems to have put it in the exact spot from the other day.

So my question is, what counts as "hip?" for the patch?  The only place on him that is even remotely meaty is his tush, so I know to avoid that.   Can I put it on his stomach, his back?  Does it matter as long as it's in the general area between the bottom of his belly button and the top of his tush?  We've never had a problem with it rubbing off and he won't mess with it.

Thanks!

The hip, and only the hip. Alternate hips and angles? We  went high and low, all over DD's hips, but she had no irritation ever.

When DD was in the Daytrana med trials they had us try it in different places and it doesn't work as well anywhetre but the hip.

The glue comes off awith a bit of baby oil.

Alternate hips is a MUST if you want to avoid as much irritation as possible.

I have placed the patch on the back shoulders where there is less fat and it seemed to work just as well as the hip area. But every child responds differently to ANY type of medicine, so your results may not be as successful.

I know it is recommended that it is placed on the hip only, but unless you do your only trials, you may never really know.

If you do not mind taking the chance of the meds not working as well in another area, I don't think it could hurt to give an alternative area a try?

And Edbson is right. Baby oil works real well in removing any residual glue that is left behind from the adhesive.

Thank for your answers.  We'll keep moving it around his hips.
Great success in what way?  Less irritation? Or does is somehow work better that way?

The irritation has calmed down for now.  Using Bendryl cream helps a lot.

Of course, I think I put it on him too high this morning (he commented that it wasn't in the right place).  I  happened to talked to his teacher and she said he was rather antsy and VERY hungry at snacktime (which he never is).  We'll see how he is when he gets home...

Have you asked your doctor?

Although we have not tried it .... and it is not recommended by Shire ... my Dr did share that many of her patients were applying the patch to the upper arm with great success.
