Welcome to the wonderful of raising an adhd kid.

The best thing you can do is to become educated on the disorder. Here are some sites that follow the scientific research:

www.russellbarkley.org     Russell Barkley is currently considered the top person in the field
www.chadd.org/   A support site for ADHD. Very good.
www.help4adhd.org National Resource Center on AD/HD Federally funded and you can ask questions and get responses from knowledgeable people

A transcript of a Russell Barkley workshop. Dated 2000 but still fairly up to date. Several people on the forum have commented on it being very helpful
http://www.schwablearning.org/articles.aspx?r=54

A good source of books and other resources. Russell Barkley speaks well of this resource.
www.addwarehouse.com

Also there is
Taking Charge of ADHD: The Complete, Authoritative Guide for Parents (Revised Edition) by  Barkley. It is .57 at Amazon. It is, in my opinion, the best book out there to help parents understand this disorder and  to give ideas on how to work with it.

Good luck. I raised an adhd child. I found to be very challenging task with no easy answers. I also found the task to be very worthwhile.

BTW: What edbson told you about the EEG is quite accurate. If you have any doubts on this go to the help4adhd site and ask.

Thanks for all the advice and links

Yes he was seen by a developmental pediatric who performed the Q-EEG test.  We are in the process of obtaining a pyschologist. He also was in a the pre-school disable program for 2 years and prior to that he had EI.

Started the process of the child study team in his school to help out with his school issues, not sure if section 504 or IDEA is the way to go. doing some research on that also.

Hi my 5yr old son was just diagnosed with adhd. His Dr performed a Quantitative EEG, just wondering if anyone else has used the Q-EEG to diagnosed and how accurate do they feel it is. I am not shocked that my son has it. Been reading about ADHD and they state there is no test to show this disability. Thanks

The Q-EEG does not diagnose or rule out ADHD. There is no test to diagnose ADHD. To diagnose ADHD Psychs will do a  study, many visits and Psychoevaluations, Psychoeducational evals, bloodwork to rule out other causes etc.  Did he see a Psychiatrist, Psychologist or a pediatrician?

The only difference between a Q-EEG and a regular EEG is that the signal is converted to digital form and compared to a database of individuals without any known neurologically based disorder. It is also referred to as "brain mapping". IMO, not a diagnostic tool so much as a "pocketbook denter".
