My wife and I have been dealing with our 5 yo son for the past few years with ADHD. We were adament that we were not going to put him on medication. We finally started him on Vyvance and saw a tremendous improvement. After a few weeks we noticed he lost 4 pounds due to a decrease in appetite. He also developed a nervous twitch with his hands. We took him off Vyvance after consultation with our Pediatrician and are scheduled to meet with a Psychiatrist. His behavior is worse now than before we started. He seems to be out of control at school. Could this be a withdrawal symptom of sorts? Does anyone have any advice or similar situations? We are truly at a loss. Any advice is truly appreciated. I don't know anything about hat medication but if you haven't already posted under the medication topic you may want to try there. I've seen lots of posts about that med so you may even be able to find an answer to your question there. Good luck! Hi ataloss, I was just wondering if things have gotten any better for your son? Unless vyvance builds up in the blood system over time, the med should be gone from his system within hours of taking - how long were you told it would last? If this is the case, NO it is not withdrawal. Something else is going on. I personally would NOT wait to get him help. I would bring him in ASAP!!! We use a psychopharmacologist for meds. Our pediatrician is NOT a specialist in the field of ADHD nor meds, and has told us that himself! Our pediatrician gave us recommendations. I know how hard it is finding the right med, then dealing with any side effects, it is very hard on us parents as well as our children. I just hate how much the children suffer, especially at school from both the staff and other students. Please update us on how your son is doing!! Thnaks for the responses. Sorry for the delay. Our ped has consulted with a specialist group in Atlanta, and we are trying Welbutrin XL, 150 mg. I am not too excited about using a non stumulant and such a high dosage. We are looking for a specialist locally. Will post more as we see. Thanks! See about a psychopharmacologist. They specialiaze in adhd AND medications. They know the ins and outs of all these meds and can mix and match to the person's needs. Best wishes!! Poor little guy!! |
