rebounding is not fun, and as a 36 year old adult I couldn't handle it, let alone my wife wanted to put me out of my miseryI am no shrink and do not know if this is common or not. But I do believe that when a kid (or anyone) starts talking about hating their life and wishing they were not here, it can be extremely dangerous. I am a pretty happy person most of the time, but I have had bad reactions to different drugs before. I know that the panic, anxiety, and depression can be so overwhelming that death starts to look like a viable option. I am sure that in most people this is not the case. But I know from experience that it is possible.
The following is just my personal opinion as a parent (I am not a doctor). I would talk to the doctor immediately and get my child off this medication (or change the dosage). Unless his ADD is so unmanageable that he is a danger to himself or others, it is not worth the risk.
But the key is to explain this situation to the psychiatrist immediatley.
Maybe others on this board will think I am over-reacting. As I said, I am not a mental health professional, I just speak from personal experience.
rebound is inevitable in short acting stimulants. When you take them you lose your ADD symptoms temporily only to have them come back WORSE than they were before you took the stimulant.
I would try a longer acting drug, such as strattera, wellbutrine or reboxetine.
