Provigil for Adult ADD | ADHD Information

Share

I just found this site tonight....so this is my first post!

So I agree with the research research research comment. I am currently taking 200mg of Provigil daily, and every once in a while I do notice a spell of anxiety.

I am not that sensitive to meds it seems, but to answer your question about Wellbutrin, yes it does help with anxiety. That was the first med I was given to try to help with both anxiety and ADHD. I would say the effect on my ADHD was similar to Stratera, which I was not impressed with.

It is at least worth looking into as it should not cause anxiety.

Best of luck!

Spamula, I take Amitryptiline for migraines. I only take 5mg each night. It SO helps for the headaches, but I mention it because NO insomnia. Not even one night since I started it a month ago. The other reason I mention it, is it is not only prescribed off-label for migraines it is prescribed off label for fibromyalgia. Wont do anything for ADHD, but if some of it is due to sleeplessness, may help.

My daughter was GREAT on Wellbutrin. She took it with a small dose of stimulant though not alone, and once we raised the dose of either......side effects, but she did do fairly well low dose of each.

I did try the amitryptilene for sleep and fibro issues and I had bad side effects with no sleep help. I currently take 4mg Klonopin, 1000 mg Cloral hydrate and 700 mg Soma plus my Melatonin and still do not sleep through the night. I have sleep apnea and use a BIPAP machine to control it, but my mind just won't shut off. I just want something to shut my mind down for a night!

I have been taking Provigil off label for ADD for the last year with little to no side effects. then I tried to up my dose from 200mg to 250mg and my body whacked out and I think I had a panick attack. I stopped the med since then 3 weeks ago.

Is there any reason I shouldn't try it al the lower dose or should I be looking for a different med altogether. When I lowered it when I had the problems, it did nothing. and it did make my liver enzymes go up a little. I am not sure what I should be looking at as I am VERY sensitive to medication and am scared to try the gammet of stimulants. What about Wellbutrin? Any info on that? Does it help anxiety at all? Focusing, staying awake during the day(as I do not sleep) and anxiety with a little depression are my issues. I have a phsych meeting in 3 weeks. Soonest I could get in. I would like to go in with some ideas of my own also. I have low blood pressure so tenex would probably not be an option. I am not hyperactive but cannot shut my mind off, ever.

spamula39376.2903125 I swear--the day you go "hey doc--I WANT to try the medication" [to the same doc whose been trying to medicate you for years] they suddenly come up with "well your life is stressful right now, you're just reacting to that"

If you've got pain struggles [cfs etc] then you're bound to be inattentive and feeling sad, too. I have a friend with arthritis and her 'depression' highly varies with how much pain she's in and for how long.

I sometimes wonder how much of this is related to sleeping problems too. I may get tested for that because it's got to be having some effects. Man, laying there watching a million thought trains barrelling down the tracks, plus nightmares, bad dreams and night terrors [they soooooooooo suck!] it's no wonder I have the attention span of a gnat

My prescription for you ['cause you had a stressful week] is to google videos on the British comedian with ADHD Lee Evans and watch a few.

MetisRebel39376.4201851852I have 2 doctors workingon this so I hope i can come up with something as sleep and fatique are my biggest problem right now. Also looking at cymbalta again. It helped me sleep but i gained a ton(right now I could use some extra.) but not that much. It also raised my cholesterol. But boy it helped. It's a hard decision as I have been under medicadted or un medicated for this most of my life I don't know why it's so hard now. I guess it is that med sensitive thing. I can only be sick so much. I have a family to take care of. the docs just want to load on more drugs and I just get more side effects. We'll see between them what they come up with as I have fibromyagia and chronic fatigue as well as add. A hell of a combo. Thanks for your reply, I am always researching everything I can find. First I'd suggest researching all your options--thoroughly. I'm highly med-sensitive as well and many meds don't react properly on me, either. Then you need to have a long discussion with your doctor about what options you can try.

It looks like alertec isn't your best bet. That was the first drug I wanted to try due to its controllability. [can we say 'control issues, boys and girls?']

I did okay for a while on strattera--yet when I took a cortesteroid for two weeks [i was sick] the strat went whacko and it never stopped even when I finished the other drugs. I had to stop taking it. I quit all my lung drugs too and am feeling rather chipper

So I'm off to the doc this week to discuss options again *sigh* Maybe I'll just go back to unmedicated. At least I get a few things done sometimes!

Research, research research. After that discuss, discuss, discuss. After that--pick something and give it an honest 1-2 month try.
Well I did some reading up on Provigil and if this stuff is going to cut my appetite to nothing and raise my already treated anxiety(obviously not well) what the heck are all these ADD drugs going to do? I definatly need to find something in the anti-sepressant family I think but I have tried most of those already and even most other phychotropics for their sedating(ya right) side effects. The only things that helped me were serzone and it gave me non stop nose bleeds, cymbalta, which put on 70 lbs and raised my choloestrerol by 30 pts. and zypexa which 1/4 of smallest dose put me out foe the night but I was a bumbling idiot who could not carry on a conversation if I wanted to. There. that is my med history. My doctors say I present difficult. Interesting way of putting it. Last night I dropped my Melatonin from 10 mg to 7.5 and I didn't seem to get up as much. Maybe there is something to that.
