Hi! I am new here too! I wanted to tell you what they did with my daughter. She is 7 and started on Vyvanse 30mg. It made her throw up, so I gave her 1/2 a capsule a day for 7 days with success and then gave the full 30 mg and she has tollerated it fine. She's more moody lately and has loss of appetite, but she is really benefitting from the medication at school. Less tantrums too. Well, this month we are upping her dose to 50mg. We start that tomorrow. I hope all goes well, we've really liked the Vyvanse so far! OH another symptom is sleeping problems. There are many natural medications you can use to help with that!! The natural ones didn't work for my little one, so her pediatrician has perscribed something, we start that tomorrow night too. I think it is Clonidine or something close to that. I could be way off, but I remember the clon part for sure!
Take Care!!
No he hasnt started it yet. I figured Id wait until the weekend that way he is at home in case of a reaction to it. I know when he took Adderall he went up to I think it was 60mg daily. I hate when they change his meds but it seems like after a short period it loses its effect. He also is in special ed at school for a learning disabilty, they also note the changes after a little while.
May I ask if he is on anything right now that could be causing this anxiety or hallucinations?
That is really horrible for him ( and your husband and you as well).
I remember being young and afraid of things in my room. I would stay awake not moving, frozen under the sheets scared.
If he isnt taking anything at the moment, then there is something else going on with him. Have you mentioned this to his doctor?
My son is 8 yrs old and he started vyvanse a few weeks ago. He weighs a bit less than your son though because he has been on concerta for about 2 years now and it keeps some kids from gaining weight. He weighs about 56lbs and is on 50 mg of vyvanse.
We started out for 10 days with 30mg and then went up to 50. I'm almost scared to say how well this medicine has been working for my son because I don't want to jinx it!! Vyvanse has been just wonderful for my boy! He is able to concentrate and do his homework so much better than before. I went to the playground at lunch today to "spy" on him because I had some extra time on my hands. He was playing with kids and having a great time. He used to just play with rocks in a corner somewhere on the playground.
Like I said, I'm scared this won't last because it's just so awesome!
Good luck with your boy!
I have a 8 yr old daughter and we have just recently tried vyvanse, 2 1/2 weeks ago and we are back to what she was on which is 40 mg ritalin xr and 10 mg ritalin after school, the doctor started her on 30 mg vyvanse, but it was wearing off about 4:30 and she was acting depressed and also would get very upset and yelling at you over a lot of different things which should not have gotten that response. I hope everything goes well with your son and I hope that is not too high of a dose for him to start with, maybe double check with his physciain about the dosage.Hello Im new here, actually found this site while looking on here for information on a new med my son will start this weekend. First of all my 8 year old was dignosed with ADHD when he was 4 and put on medication then, he started taking Adderall, then tried concerta, then medadate cd, and now going to try the new Vyvanse. here the last few months have been HE__! He complains that he sees shadows at night so therefor hes in our room, major behavior outburst, you ask him to do anything its like your asking him to jump off a mountain. I have tried everything from taking his xbox, computer, tv ext from him. He doesnt seem to mind that Ive taken them. This thing at night is coming between me and his dad no alone time for us and causing us problems. We have tried leaving the light or tv on but he cries no stop. I mean I think he actually thinks he sees something, he is truly afraid. He currently takes .25 risperdal 2x daily, .1 clonidinein am and .15 in pm, and the medadate cd 50mg , the dr changed the medadate to Vyvanse 50mg today but Im waiting until the weekend to start it to be sure there is no side effects from it. Just wondering if anyone has a child about the same age 8 and weight about 90lbs that has tried this new med ThanksWOW, he started that high? I figured they would start it low like other meds. Vyvanse is like other stims, and is not dosed by weight, but by symptoms.
What is his Comorbid?
Has he already started the Vyvanse? That sounds high for the Vyvance. Usually they start at a lower fose and work their way up. I might check that.
