Ok..my son was diagnosed and started meds last month. He was started on Adderall XR 5 mgs and within 2 weeks the Dr. suggested raising his dose to 10 mg. Instead of writing a new script the Dr. said to just give him two. So we did and 10 seems to work perfect for him. Now, the meds are gone before 30 days because we are doubling. I got his new script from the doctors office yesterday, but from a different Dr as my son's dr was on vaca. So I drop it off and immediately the pharamacist tells me that it's being rejected because it's too soon, the change in dosage and the fact that my son is only 5. Ok...he turns 6 next WEDNESDAY! I had the problem with prior authorization getting the first script filled. NOW...I call his Dr office to get the Dr to call the insurance company and the office is CLOSED for a staff meeting. Am I supposed to just let him go without meds until then or what? I told the pharamcist of my issue and he said if we couldn't get it worked out that he would just give me a few pills to get him through the weekend. Its not like he will just have to go one day at school without it. Today is Wed and the last time it took several days to get it worked out. Man....what a headache. My neighbor's son is on the exact same medication/dose so she "loaned" me two days dose, he took one today and has one for tomorrow. After that we are completely out. Should I call the emergency number left on the dr's recording?
Will I have to go through prior authorizaton every time I get this filled. Also, I only left us with 2 days meds left before I went and got the new script. NOW I know to do it a week before he is out.
How frustrating!! I would definitely call the emergency number. Your doctor should have know better in the first place. Pharmacies are VERY careful about stimulants because they are a controlled substance.
