Oh yes, Strattera is our next step. The only reason I tried Daytrana before Strattera was I would know right away and could stop it right it away if needed. So we shall see. She wasnt bad this morning. The "theory" is that it is not the stimulant causing the tics directly, more indirectly, that it increases anxiety and the increased anxiety causes the tics to become worse (I'm not sold on that theory, but there it is). I have heard of one member who still had tic issues on Strattera, but I think mostly not. My worry about Strattera is my daughter had a terrible time with any meds that are sedating, and I know it's going to make her tired. I dont care about the med break as I do not do med breaks for my daughter. She does better staying on whatever she is taking. It can take her a while to adjust to a med, taking med breaks would just cause more of a "rollercoaster" effect for her.
As an FYI Concerta was the worst for us as far as tics. Ritalin LA was better, but it doesnt last as long.
Diane, thank you for your reply! Have you ever tried stratera? We haven't but its not a stimulant so would they still get the tics on it? I read on the parents board that someone had there child on stratera but they still developed tics which is kind of interesting because I thought it was the stimulants that made the tics worse. Isn't stratera supposed to be stimulant free? The only thing my husband and I do not like about this is that you can not stop the stratera on the weekends or summer vacations because it needs to build up in the body. Have you heard about this?
