New to ADHD, taking Vyvance, questions :) | ADHD Information

Share

Hi Guys I have a bunch of questions which I didn't get a chance to ask at my doctors visit.

I am ADHD and i've started Vyvance, im in the early stages but it seems to be helping although I feel the 30mg starting dose just isn't enough, i'm due to start 50mg next Friday though.

I have a few things i'm hoping you guys can help me with.

When in dim light, I notice all the floaties in my eyes all the time, this is very distracting and feels like my vision is going or i'm hallusinating. Does anyone else experience this, is this my ADHD or something else?, There is nothing wrong with my eye sight and when I'm like this I also feel anxious.

I'm feeling like it just now its 12:24am though so my Vyvance is very probably worn off.

Should Vyvance make me feel like i'm 'coming down' when it wears off, should I feel worse than before I started taking it when I 'come down'? Because I feel pretty crappy after 5-6pm just now.

Today I got a few dizzy spells and I felt like I was overheating and had to sit down a few of times in a 3 hour period, given it was 4-7pm in the afternoon and I hadn't eaten a thing... which is a side effect I guess, zero appititite, i'm having to force myself to eat at the moment and when I do it feels unplesant.

I am drinking a TON of water and can't stop, this is ok right? And I've never been to the bathroom so much for peeing, i'm assuming this is due to the amount of water im drinking?

Dry mouth is almost unbearable for it, is this going to get better or will it remain the same?

Will increasing my dosage increase problems such as dry mouth or are they pretty consitent across doses?

I think thats it for now, any other useful info would be appricated :)

One other thing the side effects I'm talking about are from the last 3 days, thats how far into my medication I am, also today I didn't wear a nicotene patch for the first time in about 3 years (don't ask lol), and i drank substantially less caffine than I normally do, I had no craving for either, however you saw the side effects I felt, so I'm wondering if the side effects from not having caffine and nicotene are perhaps showing up in a different way. I'd like to think that the increased dolpamine (spelling?) in my system is making withdrawl from both easy :)

Thanks :)

Steve

I have this as far as I know maybe that's what you have to?

It certainly sounds similar

Hey,
How long have you been on Vyvanse altogether?
I felt like a madman on the first day and probably the next couple of
weeks, I was shakier than normal.
But I'm adjusting and now, I get it.
But that first couple of days was BAD.

I'm hoping you haven't been on it long. But I decided that if I didn't get
better quickly, I was going to quit it.
I mean, I lived THIS long with ADHD, right?
Well, I hope you haven't been on it long and it will level off.
But seriously, if it doesn't, you can't stay on it.
ADHD is bad, but not so bad you should take a medication that makes
things worse.

Hey ADHDgirl, I have actually been reading your blog, i'm still only on Day 3 though, I actually commented to you on an other post but I dont think you saw it, I'll paste it below here :), it seems you have a lot in common with me :) - I actually feel a lot better today, I actually woke up with a migrane this morning but it's slowely disappeared and I feel good this afternoon. I bought a blood pressure monitor today and my BP was 128/88 with 105 pulse, so I think i'm ok, just my pulse is racing a little. Hopefully the migrane will be gone fully today.

Hey ADHDgirl, im new here, I am actually in process of reading your blog after trolling the forums without posting much for a week or so. Its amazing how parallel our situation is, after I finish reading your blog i'll send you a message, but I want to read all of it before I do :) I'm actually 30, I'm Male (I know the name is deciving), I found out about 3 weeks ago I had pretty severe ADHD after thinking I was mad for the last 10 years, I also have Anxiety and Panic attacks which have been medicated for the last 10 years with Prozac.. Unfortunately for me the Prozac didn't help the undiagnosed ADHD so the last 10 years i've been making it worse apparently :) Anyway I am married and had a baby girl 8 months ago and started Vyvance along side my prozac last week. So your blog is very interesting for me, it seems your life is a couple of weeks ahead of mine. So your going to clue me up in advance :) Anyway I just wanted to say hi :)

LindzUSA,

I am a 29 yo female and have been on Vyvanse for almost 2 months now.  I am currently taking 70mg dose and have been on 30mg, 50mg, 60mg and now 70mg.  I have been blogging since taking the meds and have a lot of specific information there, but I'll try and tell you what I experience in relation to your questions above here.  First, I don't have floaties, but I have had drier eyes along with drier mouth.  When you say you are also having anxiety, it sounds like you may be experiencing a panic attack, as losing vision like that is one of the signs.  You can try closing your eyes for a moment and taking a few deep breaths and telling yourself that you need to slow down.  That helps me.  I had an increase in panic attacks when I first increased it to 60mg, but as I adjusted to the feeling of being on the drug, they gradually went away for the most part and the deep breathing and stopping everything I am doing for a moment helps a lot.  I have noticed the dry eyes and mouth increases with an increased dosage.  Drinking water helps, but what really helps me is chewing sugarless gum.

The dizziness and overheating feeling is a sign of low blood sugar and not eating.  Since Vyvanse can cause a decreased interest in food, you will want to keep easy snacks on hand and maybe even set an alarm so you remember to eat.  Otherwise, you can get really sick.  I have found that almonds and protein bars are great things to keep on hand and can be kept in a purse or car so you have them around.  I keep a couple of bottles of water in my car also.

Everyone reacts differently.  When my meds wear off, I get a mild headache and more irritable.  A lot of people report that as the meds wear off, for a little while their symptoms are worse than when they weren't taking meds at all.  This is a rebound effect.  Sometimes this fades the longer you are on the med.

then i think it makes sense that you'd have a bad day when you upped the dosage.

it can just take a little time for your brain to adjust to the new levels.  i was scared as hell when i was going through that first day.  so i understand what would make you take to the internet seeking help.  i did it myself.

but my layman's advice is give it a day or two and if it doesn't get better, call the doctor.

i hope you feel better.

I've only been on about 9 days and it did get MUCH better, however I then moved up to 50mg a couple of days ago, yesterday was fine, today I had a terrible day but it could just be considence... I had a migrane all day and a bad stomach all day. In addition I was irritable, irritated by everyone and felt like everyone was taking a pop at me. I interupted people at bad times and was more ADHD than I have been so far on while on Vyvanse, I'm hoping today was just a bad day.
