Med question | ADHD Information

Hi Kristen, like Bethann says every person reacts differently to each medication. What you are looking for is the most symptom relief with the minimal to no side effects. It doesnt sound like you are seeing that with the Focalin. Meaning at 5 not enough sympotm relief, but at 10 you're seeing side effects. I do think it is probably worth trying something else. IMO, another stimulant would be a better choice. Mainly as you will see results quickly. Just becasue Focalin wasnt right doesnt mean another methylphedinate drug wont be the perfect fit for her. The other long acting methylphedinates are Concerta, Ritalin SR, Ritalin LA and Daytrana (which is a patch not a pill), or the other option is change class of drugs and try Adderall or Vyvanse. Then you also have the option of trying the regular release of any of the above meds. Strattera is also an option and works very, very well for some. It does however take about 2 months to notice optimal effects. So you have a lot of options out there. Don't be discouraged it generally takes some "tweaking" to find the right medication at the right dose.

All medications will vary on each person. Every one responds to the meds differently. What are you looking for a med for attention instead of impulsivness/behavior? I hear stratterra is better for more the ADD instead of the ADHD - meaning the ones who have attention issues rather than impulse, hyperactivity AND attention issues.

Ask the doctor about strattera.

 

Hi i have a quick question.  my 6yo dd is on 5mg of focalin xr.  it is doing ok for her impulse control and activity level.  but she is still haveing problems paying attention.  when we increased her to 10mg she became very lathargic and was almost in a haze.  her doctor said that usually with the medication the attention is what is noticed to improve first and usually there is an increase in strength to improve activity level.  has anyone else heard of this?  does anyone know if any medication that works better on attention then activity?
