I got his report card today for his first 9 wks of school along with a paper saying where he should be at different points in time.
According to her he's not doing good at all. Here is what is marked
Counts by rote Goal 100 1-25 *only 14 Unsatisfactory*
Recognizes and names numerals * 0-5 Unsatisfactory*
Prints Numerals 0-10 Satisfactory ? how can he not recognize them but print them?
Recognizes shapes marked * 4 of 6 Needs improvement*
Prints First Name *Needs improvement*
Prints letters *satisfactory*
Recognizes First name *satisfactory*
recognizes likeness and differences *needs improvement*
understands left to right progression * needs improvement*
Identifies rhyming words *unsatisfactory*
recognizes and names upper case letters 6 of 26 Unsatisfactory Only recognizes a, b, r, t, x, z
Recognizes basic colors *satisfactory*
So thats why they are saying he's not doing good at all.
and this is what they should know by 1st grading period:
recognize and print their first name with model, print letters and words with model, recognize likenesses and differences in pictures, recognize 6 basic shapes, recognize 8 basic colors, recognize numerals 0-5, count objects to 10, county by rote to 25, recognize 26 uppercase letters a-z, identify rhyming words.
Any suggestions?
brtsqd339385.6996180556See how quickly he improves now that he can see. If he doesn't, my next question would be -- when is his birthday? Some kids just need an extra year before they are developmentally ready for kindergarten. That's not unusual. He will be 6 in Feb.
I think he's already doing better, but thats just me :)

[/QUOTE]That's what I was thinking Joy when I was typing this all out. Seems a bit inconsisten with me.
I sure hope he does, and I'm confident that he will. Thanks everyone so much for all of your help and support and advice.
my youngest is the exact same age, turning 6 in February
.
I agree with above and stick to my other posts, he's only 5, give him time. As already said, see how he imrpoves with the better vision and better awareness where he needs help.
Some of that stuff is easy to practice without it seeming like work. Like shapes and rhyming.
We have a really fun game called Busy Bugs. Its a bunch of different rubber bugs and cards with colored squares on it. We sort the bugs by group (all spiders in one pile and flies in another), or by color. Then we practice the cards, same are by category some, by color, some by pattern. Something about bugs
.
Good luck, he'll do great!
