HELP! Need some advice on Concerta | ADHD Information

Share
My child is on concerta and has been for the past 6 yrs.  He also takes focalin in the afternoon for rebound .[occasionally]  Concerta has worked the best here.I already posted this on the ADHD Medications board - but thought I'd ask here too....   Hi.  It's been a while since I posted.  But anyhow.  I'm looking into the Pros/Cons of Concerta as I'm thinking about discussing it with my son's doctor.  I would like to switch Jon off of Focalin xr 20mg as it doesn't work beyond 2/230/3pm unless we give it to him later in the morning - even then it runs out before I get him home.    I've done some preliminary research and have asked my Aunt about her experience with Concerta and my cousin who has multiple learning problems, including ADHD.  She likes it because it lasts 12 hours, and numerous other things - too many to fully write up on here.   I'm hoping someone can give me any advice/additional information/suggestions/etc about Concerta.  I want as much info to be able to bring to the table while at the Doctors this evening.    Anything and everything is extremely apprecaited.  Thanks in advance if I don't get a chance to fully reply (I'm at work and have a TON of stuff to do!!).   Thanks thank thanks again!

My son is 10 1/2. He has been on concerta since he was 7. He tried adderall xr but it was horrible for him, terrible rebound and made him aggitated while it was "working".

We also have our son on guanfacine/tenex. It helps our ADHD'ers overstimulation and anxiety. It also helps him with eating and sleeping. It relaxes him. Without it, he isn't as successful.

Our doctor had us try the daytrana patch. It didn't work, so we upped his concerta.

I have been so happy with concerta that I hope it never stops helping my son, but I know that when puberty begins, we will have to start over with finding the right med and dose. I will cross that bridge when we get there!!

I have even made up doses, with the doctors knowledge, whe upping his milligrams to find the right level!

We love concerta! But everyone is different remember.

regards!

My son is 6 almost 7 years old he has been taking Concerta for about a year now and also clonidine to help control some other issues he has. It has done wonders for him I mean it has. It has helped so much.  I hope this helps. The only side effects that bothers me is loss of appetite but so far *knock on wood* it hasnt been an issue here. Well I hope this helps to some degree.

My daughter is currently on Concerta.   She previously was on Ritalin LA and we needed more coverage.   We also tried Focalin XR and Daytrana each for a couple of days and it wasn't the right med for her.

So far,  we like the Concerta.   Our initial dosage was too low and she was really crabby and agitated in the afternoon.   Since we have upped it the dosage, she is doing much better.

She has the same appetite issues with Concerta as we have had with the others.  She'll barely eat anything for lunch.   She'll eat a ton of food in the evening when the meds have worn off.
