Meds and weight gain or loss | ADHD Information

Wow that is good info...  Strattera plus Daytrana... interesting...

I was giving Strattera at night and my older son just would not eat breakfast, that is usually his biggest meal.  I will have to think about that option for him..Maybe now that he is adjusted to it...

Concerta: weight loss in the begining then stable but low weight

Added guanfacine and got very slight gain then stable weight

Focalin: slow weight gain whole time on focalin

Added risperdal and stopped stimulant for a summer break: gained several inches and ~12 lbs.

Still thin but looking much better.

Ritalin LA (20, 30 then 40):  Totally affected appetite. Only at in the morning and after 4:00pm.  Had to give 2 ensure plus a day (for 4 years) and still one of the smallest kids (which could be genetic).

Strattera only over summer:  Did not affect appetite at all when taken at night.  Gained 3 pounds and grew minimally.  Started trying all kinds of new foods though.

Strattera + Daytrana (10mg.):  Some appetite loss during day but eating lunch (or so he says) and no more Ensure (which pays for the cost of having Strattera made into a liquid).  Still smallest kid but gaining slowly.

Strattera (other child):  No loss of appetite when taken at night.  60% for height.  50% for weight.

I am currently on Vyvanse and it reduces my appetite.  I have heard a few people experience an increase in appetite.  I wake up in the morning hungry and eat a regular size breakfast while my pill is taking effect, but during the day I don't have much of an appetite, though I do work to remember to eat.  Then in the evening when the pill wears off, I'm pretty hungry again and eat a big dinner.

I may be doing some med changes...  Both my boys on meds are skinny and neither has much appetite.  I would like a survey, of sorts, of which meds affect appetite, which ones kids got adjusted to, and any other info. If I make a change I would like one that caused the least appetite problems.
Metadate: problems with appetite and tics.
Concerta: No appetite during the day.
Strattera:  My kids just  can't seem to find anything that sounds good.  They eat small meals all day but...

I like strattera best because of the even-ness of it..My older son is snappy on it.  He gets angry a lot..  My younger one... well it is not enough.  He also takes 18 concerta on school days.  I have just upped concerta to 27 so I feel like if I am doing that, I should give up on strattera and just go with concerta.  He is acting emotional in the afternoons and I think it is rebound or adjustments.
I just want them to eat...
My son was given FocalinXR and he actually sat down and took the time to eat. He actually ate more on the Focalin than off. Off all he does is snack all day. On he eats breakfast, a small luch, snack large dinner and snacks and dessert. He did great. One problem. He won't take it. Long story.Hmmm... focalinn I will research that one!

Concerta- can't remember.

Adderal XR-very little during the day, usually would something eat in the evening. Stayed pretty skinny.

modifinal--gained 35 pounds in 6 months. Only bought pants with elastic waistbands

vyvanse--(4months so far) entered puberty and has gained 5 pounds. Eats a big breakfast but very little during the day. Is usually hungry in evenings when the meds wear off, so we eat late (7:00pm).

Adderall XR - son is pretty thin, losing muscle thin.  won't eat during the day and will finally eat in the evening.  so load him up in a.m. before meds and evening after meds wear off.  still thin after 11 months on it though.  only 10 mg.

Concerta- No rebound, weight gain.

Strat, nothing, great results, marked weight gain after being on it for 2 years.

Then on to Daytrana, great results, no skin issues, no problems, weight gain.

Concerta again 27 mgs, HUGE appetite when it wears off in the afternoons, but weight staying steady...

So my kid is weird, and gains weight on meds that EVERYONE loses weight on....

significant weight loss every stimulant we've tried. My 10 year old daughter has been on Adderall XR since she was 6.  It has not really effected her growth.  However, it has supressed her appetite, and she was naturally thin to begin with.  We have tried ensure, boost, and vitamins in the past, and nothing seemed to help.  However, her appetite began picking up on it's own early this past summer, and she has been able to gain some weight.  She is still thin, but looks much healthier.
