I think it probably depends on:
1. The coach/psychologist and their skill level/experience dealing with ADHD.
2. Your level of effort put into any program that is recommended.
I am NOT currently going to a psychologist or using a coach. Everything Ommas suggested above is EXCELLENT and I would add that I have started practicing meditation as a way to help increase focus. I also try and take advantage of the benefits I DO get from my meds (i.e. trying to break the mind wandering cycle when it starts and bring myself back to what I was doing) in an effort to form new habits.
When it comes to social skills, a professional may be helpful. That is not my major problem (I just get distracted during conversations and sometimes say things that seem totally random to anyone outside of my mind!).
Good luck!
I am on meds right now and they help a bit but I dont just want a partial fix can anyone help? 2236284939391.5963773148good diet
damn good sleep every day
regular exersise
good vitamins
smaller agenda
shuck stressful tendencies
stimulate your brain power daily
practice focusing attention span tasks before hand - i mean see yourself - imagine yourself going through the task in your mind like a day dream and focus on succeding.
practice doing a plethera of small mundane tasks that build esteem. - practice breaking things down into smaller tasks once you start those tasks stay on them till the are complete no matter what this is a huge factor in retraing an adhd brain is consistent completion of daily tasks this builds esteem - and reduces stress
dont let motor mouthing add much more to remember
keep your tongue tied up while listening - make a self zipper on your lips and remind yourself to process whats coming into your ears rather than depending on what you see hence explore and conqure litening techniques - become an expert listener by reading listening technique books and articles.
this will dramatically reduce stress when your suddenly in a listening situation and distracted - because everyone and i mean everyone can tolerate - as youself put your listening skills in high priority mentally -and ask im sorry i had too much on my mind . you haave my undivided attention now could you start over?
this slows things down for your attention span and invites a second chance to hear it agian.
You don't really give any details. I'm no expert on ADHD as I've just been diagnosed myself (although I'm pretty sure it's been a life long issue for me). However from what my Psychiatrist has told me and from research I've made myself. The meds will help you with some of the physical aspects of what ADHD does to you (i.e. the differences in how your brain works). But due to the differences you have you may have developed behavioral problems which hinder how you cope with life. Once on Meds you can work with a physiologist or therapist to work on these issues. Once you have made progress you then may feel confident to handle it without meds.

Do you have a therapist or physiologist currently? If not you should look into it, they will be able to setup a long term plan for you.

No i do not have a physiologist currently but i coudl bring that up at my next psych meeting. but how effective are they i dont like talking about feelings and whatever unless i get almost perfect results (not immediatly of course) but not just a near normal life but a normal one.
does anyone know how good a coach or psiologist (or what ever the spelling is.) is for attention span and social skills?I honestly can't answer that, hopefully someone else here can, I am actually contemplating seeing one myself now but I haven't yet made the decision, i'm only a few weeks into the meds and currently I'm having a very hard time adjusting to them. Once I have I hope to look for a longer term solution also. I intend to either seek out a coach or a physiologist at this time.
