Daytrana and depression | ADHD Information
Just in case anyone's interested. My daughter was put on Daytrana over a month ago. We started with the 10's then moved on to the 15's because this is what our pediatrician recc. after I told her how irratible and emotional it was making my child. She increased the dose, and I noticed it got worse. I continued though, like she recc., all the while watching it worsen. It's only while the med. was is in her system. When the patch wore off, the depression and emotional s/e did, too. Again, I called the ped. after her teacher called me to tell me how emotional and moody she had been. The teacher said she had been noticing it, but was trying to see if it would stop once she got used to the medicine. The teacher was concerned b/c she said my child was so sad all the time and filled with "gloom and doom". I had not even told her that my husband and I noticed it! That's when I called the ped. back and she said we needed to go up on the dose again. I went along with ith thinking "She's the MD", it got worse and worse. After a week, I called back and insisted on another med. We have started Concerta and you will not imagine the difference!! It was completely Daytrana that was causing the depression!! I am so frustrated I let it go on as long as I did. If you start to notice this with your child, act ASAP. It will not "go away" like they say.I agree a pediatritian is not fully qualified to dispence psychotropic medication. A child or adult as the case may be Psychiatrist at the least is what is recommended.
The same thing happen to me when i was on the Adderall XR 60 mg and I really had to switch ADHD meds to Vyanase 50 mg a day.. I haven't had any crying spells or depression with this new meds.

You probably need to see a Psychiatrist for meds, not a pediatrician. better results.
