Im new, can I join? | ADHD Information

Hi, my name is Randi and my 3 1/2 year old son has been diagnosed with
ADHD with impulsivity. I have been looking for a message board for
support and for me to share.

He has been evaluated by the school system and has been receiving SEIT
services (a class shadow) and OT for his impulsivity and sensory needs.
We have a 4 month old baby as well and he 'loves' her but she can be
seriously hurt by his love. It got to a point where we just couldnt handle
the lack of response to any discipline, behavior modification etc etc so we
had him eval'd by a psychiatrist.

We are currently working on finding a good medicine balance for him. We
started with 2.5 mg of ritalin and now we are trying 5 mg. Lots of people
around him are seeing a difference in him, but we arent. It is frustrating.

I have been reading his board all day and thought it could be a good
place for me. I hope I can join in. Thank you and I am looking foward to
getting to know everyone.

Knowing what your dealing with at such an early age is going to be an advantage.  Right now with a toddler consistency is key (putting away toys, being careful and quiet around the baby, just little things) then reward with hugs, kisses and one on one time with mom or dad.  These will help prepare him for the future in kindergarten.

This board is very supportive. I think you have to be a parent of a child with ADHD to truly understand the ups and downs. I have a younger child, 5, recently diagnosed. Let me know if you need to talk!
