Issues with 10mg. Daytrana!! | ADHD Information

Enbmom did you try using a short release after school with the Ritalin LA? Another choice our p-doc gave us when we were having the afternoon issue on the RLA was give the 20mg pill in the a.m., then have her take a 10mg RLA at school about 1:00 to carry us until bedtime. We didnt end up doing that at the time, but it seemd like a good option.

We use the 15 mg patch.  Started May 2007.  The drug has been wonderful.  We opened a new box 2 weeks ago ... long story short my DD behavior has been on a down hill slide.  We never put 2 and 2 together until school called last week to say it appeared that she had stopped taking her meds.

These patches were very, very difficult to unpeel.  I called Shire to complain.

So we tried the Ritalin LA 10 today. 

I didn't talk to his teacher, but my son said she told him he had his best day ever today.  This is the teacher who has 2 kids with ADHD herself and is totally cool about everything.

Of course, today was a shorter day and it was Friday so no homework.  If we go back to the Ritalin LA, then afternoons are an issue again. 

The weird thing is that this batch of patches was so easy to peel.  But the pharmacist told me that even if the patch wasn't peeling right, that would only affect the glue, not the medication.  What's coming off on your hands is only the glue.

So is it possible there's a bad batch??? I know we had a bad formulation of the Ritalin LA once. Our son was on it for years and the effects were quite predictable. Well, one month we get the pills and the time release was all screwed up. Our son was a zomby in the morning and acted like there were no meds in him in the afternoon.  After a week of this, we went to the psychiatrist and got a new scrip and he talked the pharmacy into filling it. The next day, all was fine on the new meds so we knew we were right.

We just started Daytrana last month mostly because it lasts longer than Rilalin LA.  The first month went great, even though the patches were a bear to peel off!

Now it doesn't seem to be working as well.  I've heard from more than one teacher that my son is quite active in the classroom and that it's been happening for the last 2 weeks.  Well that's when we started the new box! Hmmm...  It's peeling off now fine, but is it working? Argh!

DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH DATYRANA 10 MG.?

I'm going to give him the old Ritalin LA tomorrow and see what the teachers say.   I don't want to increase if it's just a problem with this box.


Enbmom, we did not see a difference in how it worked from the first to second box. Maybe he's just adjusted to the 10 mg dose and needs to be upped?Maybe.  I'll see how the Ritalin LA 10 works tomorrow.  Just when you think the whole medication thing is FINALLY straightened out.
