Hi I am new here and wanted to introduce myself first..I have a 7 yr old son he has just started the patch its been 4 days. First off we were told it takes 2 hrs to kick in so what we do is he leaves for school at 9am so i put it on at 8 so should be working right around 10am. Its a 9 hr max on the patch. It says not to cut. It comes in 10, 15, 30 mg. Although at my sons age dr said 30 would be too high. We made the mistake of thinking we could change locations with it. It can only go on different areas of the hip. SO that has messed us up. But so far he just seems little flushed in the face, itchy this weekend not sure if related because if you ask him he says he doesn't itch but we see him doing it. Little bit more sensitive emotionally. But he tend to do that normally as well. No noticeable diff yet dr said it takes full 7 days to see any real changes. We have never tried any other medications before and just found out he had it. I wonder to those who have gone through this longer do you have a hard time telling the difference between what behavior is just being bratty type and what is the adhd? And do you feel bad behavior is part of the adhd? MOst books don't say that they say if that is case probably other things like defiant disorder. I am just trying to figure it out for my own lines.
Has anyone out there tried the new Daytrana Patch? Our Dr. just gave us a trial prescription for our 8yo son. He's been on Metadate for the last 2 years. From what I've read up on it, Daytrana has the same formula as Metadate, but in a transdermal patch. Supposedly, its a more controlled release than the pills. The trial pack comes in a 10 day starter kit. The box says it delivers consistently over a 9 hour period. That's been our problem. At 8 years old, he's already over 4 1/2 feet tall and 68 lbs. He gets his pill in the morning when we get to school (I have to be to work at 7:30, so he goes to before school care at his school by 7am.) Just about the time school lets out, he's metabolized his entire dosage, even though it's supposed to last for 12 hours! By the time I pick him up from school, he's been off for a while and has a hard time concentrating on his homework. The Dr. gave us some Ritalin to help with that, but we don't like to rely on it because of its side effects. So, the Dr. asked if we wanted to try this to see if it can help him more. We decided to give it a try after I got online and checked it out. I sure hope it helps!
there are several threads on here about Daytrana so keep reading! Yes epople have GREAT success. It has it's pros and cons (like everything). The biggest drawback is it takes almost 2 hours to take effect. So you'll probably want to put it on at home before you leave for school so it is on 2 hours before he needs it.
For us it does seem to be very smooth, no rebound in the eveings.

My DD was on the patch for 2 years, and was involved in the med trial. You may want to apply the patch a bit earlier in the day, it does take about 2 hours to "kick in". It also lasts for 12 hours, but is worn for 9, stays active for 3 hours after removal.
