My D is on Concerta has been a while .Before she take sit she is horrendous really bad tempered wont do anything - i dread waking up on a morning she is that bad.

The same after the concerta has wore off .She is up til around 2am , ive tried Everything to help her sleep.She is on Melatonin 9mg .Basically we spend the whole night and into the early hours trying to settle her , this has gone on years.

The concerta does help she is better behaved and better at school etc .

However it's only the school that seems to get the benefit .Its once the concerta has wore off.She is a different child.Im finding it really hard to cope.Im not selfish however i have no time to myself , i cant do anything as the whole night revolves around trying to settle her.Ive changed bedtime routines etc.Nothing works .Does anyone else have this problem.

I get verbally abused swore at, spat at etc does it get any better ???

You may need to add a second med to cover the times the concerta is not on board. The mild meds are guanfacine (Tenex) and Clonidine. Search the med section for Tenex in the subject. There is a long thread with reference articles and information.

My youngest was so bad as to have rages and want to die. She is on guanfacine AM and PM and it works wonders with her stimulant. She also had to have riseperdal added for aggression. Currently she is sweet, happy and a lot of fun. She has her moments, but so does every one.

hi tried strattera - made moods worse.

She is on slow release concerta and a higher dose to last longer because of this.

Tried Risperdal - no effect on her .

There are many many med choices out there. Keep looking.

Is ADHD her only diagnosis?
